Review :
It's like Christmas in my Kitchen.
Hi, my name is Meg and I'm a chronic failure when it comes to dieting. (hi, meg!)

The absolute BEST thing about Whole30 is that it simply is not a diet. I first stumbled upon Whole30 after two different friends--from two different friend circles--discussed this 30 day "plan" they were completing. As one girl whined and moaned about not being able to chew gum, I naturally took that as a challenge and thought: I'll do this Whole30 and not be such a baby about it. I read the Whole30 blog, I used Instagram as a means to gather additional recipes and helpful hints, and ten days later, I began day one. Surprisingly, I found it to be the BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED to my little round self. I gained confidence, learned that I do have the ability to say "no" to food cravings, discovered a myriad of new recipes, cured all of my PCOS symptoms (regular menstrual cycles for the first time in ten years and no cysts), and as a bonus, dropped 2 pants sizes. As a child, I...
Lifestyle change
I'm on my third Whole30. I got my copy in the mail yesterday, and flipping through this new resource, especially the recipes, made me think, "This is a sustainable program. I can let this experience change my habits forever!" Thanks for this incredible book!

Edit (4/28): I would like to address the "basic recipes" complaints. I've cooked my whole life and even won cooking contests. Over the weekend I followed the recipes for four "basic" items: perfect poached eggs, perfect burgers, perfect seared chicken breast, and perfect whole roasted chicken. All four turned out great! The burgers were way better than my usual ones, and the seared chicken breast was ridiculously delicious...so good that I'll cook it weekly! Looking forward to cooking my way through the rest of the book.

A Comprehensive, Must-Have Resource for Anyone Thinking of Doing a Whole30
If you're about to tackle a Whole30, this book is your guide through the ins and outs and nuances of the program. If you've wondered what your body may experience each day, how to reintroduce foods, and how to deal with special topics such as travel and kids, it's all contained in the new Whole30 book.

When you set out to eat healthier, knowing how to cook is huge. If you don't know how to maximize your time in the kitchen, cooking healthy food for yourself can seem daunting. In addition to 100+ recipes, this book steps you through cooking fundamentals to help you master meal time.

Review :
If you eat out of boredom or loneliness, this is for you.
I've lost all the excess weight because of this book! The suggestions have saved me thousands and thousands of calories. It is a list of things to do instead of eat.

I used to think that I was a compulsive eater, but really, I didn't have any alternative behaviors to lean on in times of boredom, loneliness, or stress. The book taught me how important it is for my mental health to have hobbies, do puzzles, and play games. I used to think that those were frivolous and childish pastimes. Now I know it is a sign of a mature person who has positive coping skills. I have expanded the list to include what I really enjoy and what I can really get absorbed in. Computer Mahjong, the Rubix's Slide, clicker training my dogs, and blogging (I think blogging is suggested in the book). I'm so glad I read this book and put the suggestions into practice. I can't recommend this book enough.

Also, if you are stuggling with an addiction of any kind, I believe you would benefit from...
A Book for Stress Eaters
I saw this book in the Washington Post. A few days later I actually hear the author on the radio. She seemed to make a lot of sense. I was surprised at how much this book described my stress eating to a tee. I can identify with many of the stories. I keep the book in the kitchen and read it when I'm tempted to eat because I'm nervous or stressed out (which is often!). It's helped me a lot.

A great resource to help stop mindless eating

Childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions: More than 18 million American children are considered obese and are at risk for health problems. In fact, today’s generation of kids may be the first to experience shorter life spans than their parents.

Leading pediatrician Dr. Joanna Dolgoff's Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right teaches kids how to make healthy choices based on the principles of the traffic light: green light foods are nutritious, yellow light foods are eaten in moderation, and red light foods are occasional treats.

The program, which has a proven 96 percent success rate, can be tailored to suit any child’s age, gender, and weight goals. Snacks and meals are designed to ensure that kids get the nutrients they need to not only lose or maintain weight, but to grow strong, healthy bodies. Complete with sample menus, recipes, and an index of more than 1,000 color-coded foods, Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right provides a practical solution for one of the biggest health crises facing America’s children.

Torn
First of all I want to say, I did not read this book to help my daughter lose weight but to maintain and healthy weight and learn good nutrition. So my judgment may be different then others.

First the good. The concept is good and very appealing to kids. It is a great way to teach kids portion control. You get so many green foods a day and you can trade green foods to get yellow. You also get two red foods a week. Non sweetened fruit and veggies are unlimited. There are also some good diagrams such as hunger and fulness scale, and how to measure portion sizes.

The bad. There are a lot of green foods that are not nutritious. Example: Lucky Charms, white bread and white pasta, totino pizza rolls, candy corn, jelly beans, peeps, 100 cal packs and so on. And while I believe everything in moderation, I don't feel this is good way to teach nutrition. Also she uses a lot of Splenda. So if you have reservations about this you will want to use something...
My kid gets it... and likes having tools to make good decisions
My daughter has been heavy since the day she was born @ 10LB 12OZ, 8 years ago. She LOVES to eat but is starting to hate the effects of being heavy (like feeling different from other kids and not being as good at sports and such). This book not only gives me a foundation for talking with her about making changes (as opposed to me vapidly nagging and talking abstractly about making good choices), but also a simple, straightforward guide upon which she can base her good food related decisions. I think reading this book together takes a lot of the "sting" out of talking about her excess weight (and mine) and gives her tools she can use to change her eating habits for life.

She likes the book, she gets the concepts, she is making progress.

Get on the Eat Right Express!
I think we all need a bit of a kick-start in the new year by eating right, especially with our kids! Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right is fabulous, not just for the parent of a child who is overweight, but for all parents. I can already tell you from experience this book is changing how I help my child who is struggling with weight. We were getting portion control right, but now I see our calories and fat amount was way way off.. so wonder we've hit a wall with his weight loss. I love that a Pediatrician created this program and that Dr. Dolgoff is so responsive. She is both on twitter and facebook!

No Calorie Counting, No Dieting, No Off-Limit Foods!
This is the promise of Dr. Dolgoff's food solution nutrition book. The book contains 11 chapters, with titles like:
* Coming to terms: Is your child really overweight?
* High Performance Breakfasts
* Dinner Destinations
and
* Restaurants: Be Prepared
See? Even restaurant dining is...
